Whole Orange Cake (Made in a Blender) Recipe
Ingredients
For the Cake:
1 large orange (thin-skinned, well washed) 4 medium eggs 150 ml vegetable oil (or mild olive oil) 250g sugar 250g all-purpose flour (without baking powder) 1 tablespoon baking powder Butter and flour as needed to grease the pan
For the Syrup (Optional - to make it more moist):
Juice of 1 orange
2 tablespoons sugar
For Decoration: Half-moons of fresh orange (as in the photo)
Preparation Method
Prepare the Orange and the Pan Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a round pan (without a hole, about 22-24 cm) with butter and dust with flour. Cut off the ends of the orange. Cut it into four parts and remove the central white filament and the seeds (this prevents the cake from becoming bitter). Keep the Peel.
Baking the Batter
In a blender, place the orange pieces (with peel), eggs, oil, and sugar. Blend very well for 3 to 5 minutes until you obtain a completely smooth and homogeneous cream. Pour the mixture into a large bowl. Add the sifted flour and baking powder, gently folding with a spatula or whisk until the flour disappears.
Baking the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes. Do the toothpick test in the center to ensure it comes out clean.
Syrup and Finishing
If you choose to use syrup, mix the orange juice with the sugar in a small saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves. Unmold the cake while still warm and pour the syrup over it. Let it cool and decorate the top with the orange slices arranged in a circle before serving, as in the image.
