The delicious Avocado, a 'good' fat, vitamins
Good for your health, avocado has antioxidant properties. It protects the body from free radicals that cause cardiovascular diseases, certain cancers and diseases related to aging. It ensures the expulsion of toxins from the body.
It is a high source of dietary fiber. A diet rich in this fiber reduces the risk of colon cancer and gives the appetite a quick feeling of satisfaction. It is recommended to consume 25 g of fiber per day for women aged 19 to 50 and 38 g for men between the same age.
It is very rich in fat, which is, however, considered a 'good' fat for cardiovascular health as it regulates cholesterol and prevents the narrowing and obstruction of the heart's arteries.
As it is rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins, it is important for people suffering from malnutrition, but also for children and women who are more than 3 months pregnant as it allows them to have a healthy diet.
Vitamins and Minerals in Avocado:
Vitamin B5 - pantothenic acid - allows us to properly use the energy from the food we eat.
Vitamin K - necessary for the production of proteins that act in blood clotting and important in the formation of bones.
Copper - vital for the formation of hemoglobin and collagen in the body.
Vitamin B6 - pyridoxine - participates in the production of neurotransmitters and also red blood cells, allowing them to transport more oxygen. It also contributes to the proper functioning of the immune system.
Phosphorus - essential in the formation and good health of bones and teeth. It participates in the growth and regeneration of tissues, in addition to maintaining normal blood pH.
Potassium - equally important for the balance of blood pH. It promotes digestion.
Iron - due to the minimal amount of iron, this is only effective in men. Women need a higher amount to meet their body's daily needs. Iron found in plant-based foods is less well absorbed by the body than that found in animal-based foods. However, if consumed with vitamin C, absorption can be more effective.
Zinc - necessary for the immune system, genetics, taste perception and healing.
Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B9, C and E - important for energy production and antioxidants.
Other health benefits of avocado:
Avocado oil is beneficial for psoriasis and eczema. It relieves inflammation and hydrates.
Avocado leaf infusion can be used to combat fatigue, headaches, respiratory problems, colds, coughs, irregular menstruation, mouth inflammation (it strengthens the gums and combats tooth decay), and also promotes digestion and sleep.
You should not consume avocado:
If you are prone to acne;
In the first 3 months of pregnancy, as it can cause liver sensitivity;
If you are allergic to fats, obese or have a tendency to be;
If you suffer from chronic heart pain, hypertension, arteriosclerosis and high cholesterol levels;
