Pastéis de Massa Tenra (Tender Pastries)

Tender pastries are a traditional Portuguese savory pastry, known for their thin and delicate dough that encloses a flavorful filling, making them a classic and comforting option for any occasion.

Ingredients

250 g wheat flour

100 g butter

1 tsp salt

100-125 ml warm water

1 tbsp olive oil

1/2 chopped onion

2 cloves of chopped garlic

150 g ground beef

Preparation

In a bowl, combine the wheat flour, butter, and salt and mix with your hands until crumbly.

Add a little water and knead. Add more water and knead until the dough comes together. Sprinkle the work surface with flour and arrange the dough to knead until smooth and elastic. Cover with a cloth and let it rest for 2 hours.

In a pan, add the olive oil, onion, garlic, and ground beef. Stir and cook for a few minutes.

Sprinkle the work surface with flour and place the ball of dough on it. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough until it is thin.

Place a portion of meat inside and fold the dough over it. Cut into half-moons and seal the edges with a fork. Repeat with the remaining dough.

In a frying pan with olive oil, fry the pastries until golden brown.

Set aside and repeat with the remaining pastries.

Serve the tender dough pastries.
