Rain, Cold, and Snow
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts for this Saturday, December 13th, generally very cloudy skies, showers, which may include hail and thunderstorms, and which may be heavy at times on the northern slopes of Madeira Island and in the highlands, as well as snowfall in the highest points of Madeira Island until the end of the morning.
The Madeira archipelago is feeling the effects of the Emilia depression, which led the national meteorological service to issue several warnings.
The wind should blow moderately to strongly (30 to 50 km/h) from the north/northeast, with gusts of up to 100 km/h, blowing strongly to very strongly (45 to 60 km/h) in the high areas, with gusts of up to 130 km/h.
Temperatures will vary between 14 and 20 ºC in Funchal and 15 and 19 ºC in Porto Santo. Regarding sea conditions, IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere) indicates northwest waves of 7 to 8 meters, decreasing to 5.5 to 6.5 meters from mid-afternoon on the north coast. For the south coast, west/southwest waves of 3 to 4.5 meters are expected, decreasing to 2 meters, with northwest waves of 5 to 6 meters on the west coast, gradually decreasing from late morning.
The sea temperature should be between 20 and 21 ºC.
