Funchal Port Busts Bustled with Three Cruise Ships
The Port of Funchal is receiving over 10,000 visitors this Tuesday, arriving aboard three cruise ships: Mein Schiff Relax, Azura, and Silver Dawn.
With 4,170 passengers and 1,388 crew members on board, the Mein Schiff Relax was the first to arrive, at 6:00 AM. The Tui Cruises ship, which made its first stop in Madeira last Wednesday, came from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will remain at Pontinha until 10:00 PM, then continuing on to Santa Cruz de La Palma.
Managed by JFM Shipping and with American Todd Allen Burgmann at the helm, the Mein Schiff Relax is on a seven-day cruise through the Canary Islands and Madeira. This itinerary will be offered weekly until April of next year. It's a product of the Fincantieri shipyards, aimed at a premium audience.
A little later, at 6:45 am, another giant of the seas arrived: Azura. With 4,221 people on board (3,089 passengers and 1,132 crew). It will also remain in the city until 10 pm, on a stop promoted by Blatas, then continuing to Lanzarote. Like the Relax, you're taking a 14-day cruise through the Atlantic islands of the Canary Islands and Madeira.
Sailing in Carnival colors, through P&O Cruises, the Azura has 15 years of service and is also an Italian Fincantieri design.
Smaller, but equally elegant, the Silver Dawn was the last to arrive, but will also be the last to leave, spending the night at Pier 6. With 476 passengers and 419 crew, it is managed by Agência Ferraz, and has the Greek Michail Sympouras at the helm.
It arrived from the port of Lisbon and departs on Wednesday at 7 pm for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Cádiz will follow before concluding this 24-day voyage, which began in Southampton (United Kingdom) and has already passed through Saint-Malo and Bordeaux (France), Bilbao, Gijón, and Vigo (Spain), and Leixões. It belongs to the Silver Cruises fleet and is once again a Fincantieri construction.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian training ship Sorlandet, which had been in Madeira since October 27th with 89 crew members on board, set sail this morning for Seville. It was handled by the Wilhelmsen agency.
