Celebrity Eclipse and Sirena Bring Around 5,000 for a Day Trip to Funchal


The city of Funchal awoke this Monday to the visit of the cruise ships Celebrity Eclipse and Sirena.


Together, the two ships bring nearly five thousand people to Madeira for a day trip.


Captained by Irishman Nigel Smyth, the Celebrity Eclipse entered the Port of Funchal at 6:46 am, coming from the Spanish port of Cádiz. Handled by JFM Shipping, it will remain at the Pontinha pier until 5 pm, at which time it will continue its journey to Kings Wharf, Bermuda.




The ship, built in 2010 at the German shipyards of Meyer Werft, is sailing with 3,900 people on board, including 2,683 passengers and 1,217 crew members. It is undertaking a repositioning cruise to the Caribbean. It set sail on October 30th in Barcelona, ​​and after stops in Lisbon, Funchal, and Kings Wharf, it will end its voyage on November 12th in Fort Lauderdale, United States.


Also handled by JFM Shipping, the Sirena arrived at 9:00 AM in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. On board are 640 passengers and 390 crew members, on a journey that continues at 6:00 PM towards Tangier, Morocco. It is undertaking a 20-day voyage between Rome and Lisbon. Before arriving in Madeira, it has already visited the Italian ports of Naples, Messina, and Livorno, and passed through Valletta (Malta), Monte Carlo (Monaco), Tunis (Tunisia), Marseille (France), Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, ​​Alicante, Motril, Arrecife, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.


Built in 1999 at the French shipyards of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, the Sirena cost nearly 200 million euros and is part of the Oceania Cruises fleet.


Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Port of Funchal will be full with the visit of three ships: Mein Schiff Relax, Azura, and Silver Dawn. In total, approximately 10,000 people will be visiting the region.
