More than 1,400 people spent the night in Funchal aboard the 'Spirit of Discovery'.
The 'Spirit of Discovery' arrived in Funchal yesterday afternoon, having spent the night in the region with 950 passengers and 505 crew members on board. Captained by Croatian Franko Papic, the ship is on a 14-night Atlantic cruise.
According to APRAM, the voyage began on October 1st in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, then called at A Coruña, Spain, before docking in Funchal. The cruise continues this Monday at 5 p.m., heading for Santa Cruz de la Palma (Canary Islands). It then visits Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arrecife (Lanzarote), and Lisbon, before concluding the cruise back in Portsmouth on October 15th.
Owned by Saga Cruises, the Discovery is the sister ship of the 'Spirit of Adventure'. It was built in 2019 at the German shipyard Meyer Werft and refurbished this year. It is an expedition-class ship with a hull prepared to withstand the harsh conditions and ice of the polar regions, designed to accommodate up to 999 passengers and 530 crew members. It cost 310 million euros.
