Madeira Wins Two More Awards at the World Travel Awards
Madeira Island received two awards at the World Travel Awards European Gala, held tonight in Sardinia, Italy.
In the 32nd edition of these awards, often referred to as the "Oscars of Tourism," Madeira received the award for "Best Island Destination in Europe" for the 11th time since 2013.
Among the contenders were the Azores, the Canary Islands, Ibiza and Mallorca (Spain), Crete and the Cyclades (Greece), Sardinia and Sicily (Italy), as well as Malta, Cyprus, Guernsey, and Jersey (United Kingdom).
In turn, the Madeira Promotion Association received the award for "Best European Tourism Board" for the second consecutive year.
Also nominated for this category were Turismo de Portugal, Atout (France), Turismo de Austria, Turismo de Croatia, Fáilte (Ireland), Turismo de Germany, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Spanish Tourism Board (TURESPAÑA), Turismo de Italy, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Turismo de Slovenia, and VisitEngland.
It is worth noting that the 2025 WTA World Gala will take place on December 6th in Bahrain, with Madeira being nominated in six different categories, the highest number of nominations ever.
The categories in which the region can once again be recognized are the "Best Festival and Event Destination," the "Best Beach Destination" (Porto Santo), the "Best Island Destination," the "Best Tourism Entity" (Madeira Promotion Association), and, for the first time, the "Best Regional Beach" (Prainha, Caniçal) and the "Best Regional Adventure Destination."
