Chocolate Walnut Cake Recipe


Ingredients


For the cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 3/4 cups sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup hot water

1 cup chopped walnuts (adjust to taste)





For the frosting


(optional):

200g semisweet chocolate

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup chopped walnuts for garnish


Instructions


Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and flour a round cake pan (22-24 cm) or line with parchment paper. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the sugar and mix.

Combine the wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.

Combine the mixes: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined. Gradually add the hot water, stirring until the batter is smooth (it will be runny, this is normal). Stir in the chopped walnuts.

Bake: Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes before unmolding.


Topping


(optional):

Melt the chocolate with the cream in a double boiler or in the microwave (in 20-second intervals, stirring). Spread over the cooled cake and sprinkle with walnuts.

Serve: Cut into slices and enjoy!
