United Airlines to resume direct flights to Madeira in May 2026
- The North American airline United Airlines will resume direct flights between Madeira and New York, in the United States, in May 2026, the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, announced today.
- "The agreement, based on the discussions we've had, is for the beginning of May," said the head of the PSD/CDS-PP executive.
- The minister was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a visit to the Dr. Horácio Bento de Gouveia Elementary School in Funchal, where improvements and maintenance work was carried out on the three sports fields.

- United Airlines launched its first direct service this year between Newark/New York Airport and Madeira International Airport, with three weekly flights between June 9th and September 24th, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- "The idea is, since the operation went well, to maintain the three flights [...] and start earlier than last year," said Miguel Albuquerque, without specifying a specific date.
- The president of the Regional Government explained that the United Airlines operation, which ends next Wednesday, was experimental and "went very well."
- "We will now look at the new period," he said, emphasizing that "companies are in the market to make money," so "as long as they have occupancy and are profitable, they will certainly operate."
