The Cider Show returns to Santo da Serra for two days of entertainment and tastings

The parish of Santo da Serra (Santa Cruz) will once again host the Cider Show on September 27th and 28th. According to the Casa do Povo do Santo da Serra, the organizing entity, this is the 31st edition of one of the most important events in the rural and cultural calendar of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

The official opening of the event will take place at 7 p.m. on the 27th. Before the event, specifically at 6 p.m., a mass will be celebrated in honor of local farmers and producers. This mass will take place at the Santo da Serra Parish Church. A reception and speech by the organizations will follow, immediately following a performance by the Santa Cruz Municipal Band. In addition to visiting the exhibition pavilions, attendees can participate in the "pear stomping" (pedada dos peros). After another performance by the Santa Cruz band, there's a demonstration and tasting of Ponta de Sol cider, and another from Santana. At 9:00 PM, the musical group Gaudium performs.

On Sunday, the event reopens at 10:00 AM. An hour later, a mass is celebrated. And before lunch, there's a demonstration and tasting of Calheta cider. At 1:30 PM, there's entertainment by the cultural and recreational group from the Casa do Povo de Santo António da Serra. There's another tasting, right after this fair, of Santa Cruz cider. Caçoar performs at 3:00 PM. Half an hour later, there's a tasting of Machico cider. And then, at 4:30 PM, the folk group Monte Verde takes the stage. Before the event closes, there's another cider tasting: Câmara de Lobos. And suddenly, the party's over.

"The Cider Show returns to Santo da Serra. We were able to revive an event that represents the rural and cultural soul of our parish, which is part of our identity, our history, and who we are as a community connected to the land, agriculture, and tradition," says Pedro Paixão, president of the Santo da Serra People's House.

This emblematic event for the parish is supported by the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Also noteworthy is the involvement of the Madeira Cider Producers Association, which demonstrated its willingness to collaborate with the organization from the outset.

The return of the initiative to Santo da Serra "is a reflection of a collective desire to value what is ours, to affirm our products, and to boost our local economy. It is also a symbol of what we can achieve when there is cooperation between institutions, producers, and the community," says Pedro Paixão.
