Port of Funchal Welcomes 'Scenic Eclipse'
The luxury expedition ship 'Scenic Eclipse' arrives at the Port of Funchal this Friday for a ten-hour layover, with 110 passengers and 189 crew members on board.
The vessel, designed to navigate the Antarctic and Arctic seas, is part of a 17-day cruise from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 'Scenic Eclipse' departed the Portuguese capital on September 24th and is now sailing across the Atlantic to South America. After Madeira, it will stop in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (September 27th) in the Canary Islands and Mindelo, Cape Verde (September 30th) before arriving in Brazil, where it will visit Recife and Salvador da Bahia, concluding the voyage on October 11th in Rio de Janeiro.
The move is part of the ship's repositioning voyage to South America, where it will remain for the season, dedicated to expedition cruises in Antarctica.
Built in 2019 at the Uljanik Shipyard in Croatia, the 'Scenic Eclipse' represented an investment of 190 million euros. It has capacity for 228 passengers and 176 crew members and underwent a refit this year.
