Pear Festival Livens Up Ponta do Pargo

The 40th Pear Festival promises to fill Ponta do Pargo with color, music, and tradition this Sunday, with a program that honors not only the fruit that gives the event its name, but also the work of farmers and popular culture.

The event, which began on Saturday, ends today, Sunday.

On this day, the festivities begin at 9:00 a.m. with a reception for official figures, accompanied by the Paulense Municipal Band, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a mass celebrated by the Casa do Povo da Calheta Musical Training Group. At noon, there will be a speech by the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, who will preside over the farmers' awards ceremony, recognizing the Best Pear, the Best Pavilion, and the participants of the 4th Pear Festival Domino Tournament.

During the afternoon, folklore takes center stage with the performance of several regional groups, including those from the Casa do Povo de Campanário, Ribeira Brava, Santa Cruz, São Martinho, and Santana, as well as the Monteverde Folklore Group. At 4:00 p.m., the traditional Parade of Floats takes place, one of the most anticipated moments of the festival, filling the streets with local customs and traditions.

Music will be another major attraction of the day, with a performance by Miro Freitas at 4:40 p.m., followed by a performance by Ernesto Macedo and his band at 5:50 p.m., and the Ritmos Modernos group 'Os Lordes' at 6:30 p.m. The event ends at 10 pm, after a day full of celebrations that reinforce the cultural and agricultural identity of the parish of Ponta do Pargo and the municipality of Calheta.
