Lily Harvesting Brings Lively Life to Campanário Again

Lily Harvesting Brings Lively Life to Campanário Again

Tradition was fulfilled this morning in the parish of Campanário, with the harvesting of lilies for the Bom Despacho festival, taking place this weekend.

This custom is not just an event, but a moment of community unity, faith, and shared effort. Early this morning before this weekend's festival, hundreds of people went to the mountains of the neighboring parish, Quinta Grande, to harvest lilies, a pinkish-white wildflower that is the star of the festival's decorations.

After the harvest, there was a gathering and a procession, with people descending the mountains carrying the flowers in baskets and bundles. The procession was enlivened by traditional music and a contagious spirit.

Mayor Ricardo Nascimento highlighted the importance of this tradition, which has been fostered in the local community and is a time for social interaction between locals and visitors.

"The spirit of mutual assistance that develops for this occasion is commendable. This is prepared days in advance by a group of people who work hard and dedicate themselves to keeping this beautiful tradition alive," the mayor emphasized.

The procession culminated at the Bom Despacho Chapel, where lilies were used to decorate the temple and its surroundings, an act of devotion and teamwork. The tradition is carried on, passed down from generation to generation, and marks the official beginning of one of the most beloved festivals among the population.
