Funchal reached a maximum temperature of 33.7°C in August
The Funchal/Observatory station recorded Madeira's highest absolute maximum temperature in August, 33.7°C, on the 10th.
According to data released today by the Regional Directorate of Statistics (DREM), Lugar de Baixo recorded the highest average temperature, 24.6°C, in the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The lowest temperature was recorded at Chão do Areeiro (17.6°C).
Compared to climatological normals, seven of the stations with available data showed anomalies in August, with the largest deviation, 2.8°C above normal, being recorded at Chão do Areeiro.
The absolute minimum temperature for that same month, recorded on the 20th, was 5.4°C at Pico do Areeiro.
It is also worth noting that Lugar de Baixo and Funchal/Observatório recorded 31 days with maximum temperatures above 25°C, considering that the meteorological normal is 25.5 days at the first station and 22.2 at the second.
Also at the Funchal/Observatório, Funchal/Lido, Lugar de Baixo, and Porto Moniz stations, 31 tropical nights were recorded in which the minimum temperature did not drop below 20°C.
