Fried Beef with French Fries and Ketchup Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
(Serves 2)
For the meat: 500g beef (such as sirloin, rump, or topside), cut into steaks or strips
2 cloves garlic, minced
Juice of half a lemon (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon oil or olive oil
1 tablespoon butter (optional, for flavor)
For the fries:
4 medium potatoes (preferably Asterix or fry-safe)
Oil for frying (enough for dipping)
Salt to taste
For the ketchup sauce:
4 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
1 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice (for balance)
1 pinch of black pepper or pepper Pepperoni (optional)
1 tablespoon water (to adjust the consistency)
Preparation:
1. French Fries: Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut into sticks or slices, as preferred. Place them in a bowl of cold water for 10-15 minutes to remove excess starch (this makes the potatoes crispier).
Dry: Drain the water and dry the potatoes well with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Fry: Heat the oil in a deep pot or deep fryer to 170-180°C (350-375°F). Fry the potatoes in small batches so as not to lower the oil temperature. Fry for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and season: Remove the potatoes with a slotted spoon, drain on paper towels, and season immediately with salt.
2. Fried Meat
: Season the meat: Season the steaks or strips of meat with salt, black pepper, minced garlic, and, if desired, lemon juice. Let rest for 10 minutes (optional, for more flavor).
Heat the skillet: In a large skillet, heat the oil (and butter, if using) over medium-high heat.
Fry the meat: Place the steaks or strips in the hot skillet, without overlapping them. Fry for 2-4 minutes per side (depending on your desired doneness: rare, medium-rare, or well-done). Avoid stirring too much to create a golden crust.
Set aside: Remove the meat and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
3. Ketchup Sauce
: Mix: In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar (or lemon), and pepper. Mix well.
Adjust: Gradually add water until the desired consistency is reached (more fluid or thick, as preferred).
Taste: Adjust salt and pepper, if necessary.
Assembly:
Serve the fried meat on a plate, accompanied by the crispy fries.
Place the ketchup in a small container on the side or drizzle it over the meat, if desired.
