Cruise ship 'Borealis' spends the night in Funchal

The cruise ship 'Borealis' arrived this Saturday morning at the Port of Funchal with just over a thousand passengers and 660 crew members on board, with a port call that will continue until late tomorrow afternoon.

"The ship, managed by JFM Shipping, is on a 14-day cruise around the Portuguese islands. It began on September 19th in Southampton, United Kingdom, from where it continued to Praia da Vitória (Terceira Island) and then to Ponta Delgada (São Miguel Island), arriving at seven this Saturday morning," reports a statement from APRAM.

The Madeira Port Authority emphasizes that the 'Borealis' will continue "its journey this Sunday at 6 p.m., heading to Lisbon, before concluding its voyage back in Southampton on October 3rd."

With 28 years at sea (built in 1997 at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri), "the 'Borealis' was initially called 'MS Rotterdam VI' when sailing under the Holland America flag. Acquired by Fred Olsen Cruises, the ship was renamed to its current name," APRAM states.

In conclusion, it highlights that the ship "was designed to accommodate up to 1,685 passengers and 615 crew members" and "was refurbished this year."
