Codfish with Portuguese cream
Ingredients
4 pieces of soaked codfish
6 dl (600 ml) milk
1 onion(s) sliced
olive oil
2 tbsp flour
1 kg potato(s)
nutmeg
2 dl (200 ml) cream
grated cheese
salt to taste
pepper to taste
Preparation
Cook the codfish pieces in milk.
Cut the onion into thin slices and sauté in olive oil until soft and transparent.
Drain the codfish and break it into flakes and add to the onion mixture. Let it sauté slowly. Sprinkle with flour, stir and pour in the strained milk in which you cooked the codfish beforehand. Let it thicken, stirring occasionally. Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes and fry them in oil that is not hot, so that they are more cooked than fried. Drain the potatoes and add them to the cod. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Place everything in a greased baking dish, spread the cream on top and sprinkle with grated cheese. Bake until golden brown.
Serve with a fresh lettuce and tomato salad.
