Fried Shrimp and Squid Recipe
Ingredients
(Serves 4):
400g cleaned shrimp (shelled and headless)
400g cleaned squid rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup breadcrumbs (or breadcrumbs)
1/2 cup cornmeal (optional, for extra crunch)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika (optional, for flavor)
Salt and black pepper to taste
Juice of half a lemon
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Lemon wedges and tartar sauce (for serving, optional)
Instructions:
Preparing the seafood: Season the shrimp and squid with lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
Assembling the breading line
: Place the flour on a plate. In another bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt.
In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with the cornmeal (if using) and a pinch of paprika.
Breading:
Dip the shrimp and squid rings first in the flour, coating them well.
Then, dip them in the beaten eggs.
Finally, coat with the breadcrumb and cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
Frying:
Heat oil in a deep pot or skillet (enough to cover the seafood) to about 170-180°C (350-375°F).
Fry the shrimp and squid in small batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain off excess oil.
Serving: Serve hot with lemon wedges and, if desired, tartar sauce or seasoned mayonnaise.
