Fried Dumplings Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 pinch of salt
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Oil for frying
Sugar and cinnamon powder for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the wet ingredients: In another bowl, beat the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a smooth, smooth batter forms (do not overmix, as this will toughen the dumplings).
Heat the oil: In a deep saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat (about 350°F). Use enough oil to coat the dumplings (deep-frying).
Shape the dumplings: Using two spoons or lightly floured hands, form the dough into small balls (about the size of a tablespoon).
Fry the dumplings: Place the dumplings in the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid cooling the oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning to brown evenly, until golden brown and crispy.
Drain and finish:
Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. If desired, roll them in a cinnamon-sugar mixture while still hot.
Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature.
