Madeira Island has a subtropical oceanic climate, which can be explained by the geographical location of the island and its mountainous relief. Rainfall is concentrated in the winter months between October and February. Annual rainfall is 700 mm and the island has an average of 90 rainy days a year, while there are 2,450 hours of sunshine.

The island, due to its location, is blessed with a mild but relatively rainy climate. The rains fall during the months between October and March. These months have between 10 and 13 days of rain. October, November, December, January and February are the months when precipitation is most abundant. The months between May and September are dry and at this time the rainy days vary between 6 days in September and just one day in July. Rainfall falls more along the north coast of the island, while it is lesser along the south coast.

Madeira's climate is exceptionally mild and has small seasonal temperature variations. Maximum temperatures vary between 25°C in summer and 20°C in winter, while minimum temperatures range between 20°C in summer and 13°C in winter.

Even the temperature of the sea water is pleasant all year round thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream, which varies between 18ºC in winter and 24ºC in summer.
